Avast land lubbers! It be International Talk Like A Pirate Day today me hearties!
You might not know this because A.) I’ve never really said anything before about it, or B.) It’s relatively a new thing, but there are a few other places on the net to get Kat-Nap related news than this site. I know, there are other sites on the internet, crazy right? Anyway If you did already find it I have a twitter feed @cobaltkatdrone that I post when comic and news updates are posted and sometimes other stuff. The cats also have twitters too @KatNapKat, @KatNapKetty, and @KatNapSpot where they will chat to each other when they stop losing their phones that is. I also recently set up a tumblr account at http://cobaltkattumbles.tumblr.com/ which is vary barren at the moment but I plan on posting art and sketches for Kat-Nap and other projects. Finally I’m starting to learn reddit and I’m posting under the username CobaltKatDrone and trying to build enough site karma to set-up a Kat-Nap sub-reddit one day. So that’s some more ways to keep on the goings on of crazy cat adventures.
Yes I still function! While my recovery has been slow and is still not 100% complete, am back working on comics and various secret projects. If everything goes well I will be at Docking Bay 93 on the 7th of May for Free Comic Book Day from 12pm to 3pm, granted this is all dependent on how well I’m feeling that day. I wanted to have my new random comic up today it’s not done yet. So I’m just going to distract you with cute kittens today, these are tests for a new project I’m working on.
Hi everybody, I’m back-ish!
So as you may have noticed that there hasn’t been too much activity around this site for awhile, and while honestly that’s not too strange for me most times, sorry about that by the way, but this time was different. Back in July I was hospitalized with a very bad case of pneumonia, like not sure if I was going to die or not bad. Since I have a form of muscular dystrophy I have a weaker cough than the average person so respiratory illnesses are nothing to cough at for me, lol. Though thanks to some great doctors, therapists and the support of my family and friends I was able to pull through. I finally got out of the hospital in the second week of September, but even though the pneumonia is gone I’m still in recovery mode. The few months in the hospital and the sickness took a lot out of me and my physical abilities. I am getting physical therapy and I’m making some good progress, but I’m still not sure when I will be up to working on Kat-Nap. Be assured that I am not giving up on these crazy cats and they will continue in someway, I’m just not sure when that will be. Anyways thank you all for your patience and understanding and I hope to be back bringing more exploits of Kat, Ketty, Spot with me soon.
Later for now.
So the 2015 Emerald City was last weekend and as always it was a great show. A big thank you goes out right at the start of this update to Nick Osborne and my cousin Bradley Schwandt for helping me all weekend, I could not do the convention with out them. Also a huge thank you to Ben Hansen and his wife Jolene for helping out and watching my table during a slight emergency on Sunday.
Okay with that important bit out of the way, on with the update.
Friday started a bit rocky. The intercom for the convention center in the section we were in was not working that day so we were not given a heads up that they were letting the attendees in and we were still setting up a few things on the table. That wouldn’t be that much of an issue normally (and it really wasn’t too bad) but we were located right at one of the entrances, which, don’t get me wrong was great, but we were almost swimming in the crowd. Although by being in that location were were able to make our first sale of the convention in about five minutes, which is a new record. Also from early estimates we beat our sales record too.
I didn’t get away from the table all that much this year. I did get a chance to talk to some awesome creators which is one of my favorite parts of being an exhibitor. I talked with James Asmus and Steve Lieber at the valiant booth about working on humor stories in the comic industry and Mr. Lieber drew a super cool Quantum and Woody sketch for me. Later I got to talk with Katie Cook about her work as writer on the current MLP comics. I also got to talk to Andy Runton a little after the convention about his experiences with conventions in general.
As for convention swag, I really didn’t get that much this year. I got a bunch or awesome prints from by buddy Ben Hansen. From the welovefine booth I got a small Balloonicorn plush and a Team Fortress 2 blind box mini figure (I got the red Pyro, which was the one I wanted, yay) and that’s about it.
I was able to get some pics with some cosplayers this year dressed like an agent 47
a new Miss Marvel
and Tiny Tina with her friend Eowyn.
Over all this year’s ECCC pretty great. Over the three days we had a lot of cool people stopping by the table and I got to catch up with friends IRL.
Though this year was great I am going to be taking the next year off from the convention scene. This is not because the conventions have done anything wrong by me, in fact they are super awesome, I just need to get stuff done like get the online store up and finish my storyline comics. Also with next years ECCC being 4 days I’m not quite sure how to logistically swing that yet.
Anyways thank you to everyone who helped make this the greatest ECCC so far.
Stay tuned for awesome things to come.
Only 6 days left till the completely sold out 2015 Emerald City Comicon. If you were able to get a ticket I look forward to seeing you there. I was able to get a new print done in time and will be premiering it at the show, check it out below. Also I will be running a sale this year at ECCC on all my prints. I will be selling 8.5″ x 11″ prints for $5 and 11″ x 17″ prints for $10, you read that right $5 and $10 prints! So if you have been holding off on getting some prints and are going to ECCC now would be the perfect time to get some cat art for your walls.
